off road h-pipe+MIL elem=check engine

I helped a friend with the install on his 2000 gt and the "service engine soon" light came on. We put on the paceseter H-pipe, flowmaster force II, and a set of mil eleminaters. WTF?
At first the mil's did not come in yet, but we installed the exaust anyways. We figured that when they came in we would disconect the battery cable for 1 hour (to reset the cpu) then install them. It worked, but after 1 hour the light cam back on.
Please help. It took me for ever to convince him to start adding mods. If it turnes out like this he won't even do the K&N filter thing and keep the stock paper one in.
Thanks,
Wade

I had a heart to heart with my ECU (hammer, smack!!). After that it starting playing better with the kiddies, and stop complaining so much. .... I would just say to have someone with OBD-II reader check the DTC coming from your computer. It's prob the same mine were. HO2S Failure, (typical code from exhaust work), except it took me adding a larger MAF/TA to the car to trip it. I put in the MIL Elims and it took a couple weeks for the computer to settle down and be nice.

If he has digital gauges, he should be able to read the DTC right from them.. I don't know the exact sequence to get to it though. I think it's something like - Key in ACC position, or it maybe be on just before the crack position. Then you can push the reset button in and get to a menu that displays your DTC.. I don't know the exact year they started that in, it might be 00, or it could be 01... I don't know, someone else in here know how to do it on newer stangs?
