Need some advice

First let me say, I don't want this to deteriorate into a mod v. pushrod debate.

I have been considering the sad state of affairs my 4-wheel transports are, and I think I am going to sell them both. There is another thread on here about the gremlins in my Escorts engine, so I won't go into that. So here's the deal........

I want a Mustang! :D It's about dang time I go out and get me a GT to drive around in. I have come to the following conclusion. I want a 94-98, coupe, 5speed. Ideally with 85k miles or less for under 10 grand. The darker the car the better, and I would like 17's, but not Cobra rims, unless it actually is one (dreaming)

I think they are the best looking late model stang and I should have a fair amount to choose from within say 200 miles of me in that range. So unless you want to give me a GT, lets not discuss other years/models. Besides, I will probably sell it for my Cobra in two years anyway.

What are the weak areas on cars of this vintage? I figure the 5.0 and the 4.6 each have different things that like to go wrong. Let me know what I should be looking for on the body, and signs that the car may have been driven harder than they want to admit. I know my way around the cars I've had, just never actually picked up a Stang. Thanks in advance for the help.
Mike

PS. For those of you who must voice and opinion on the 5.0/4.6 question, please just vote in the poll above.

if you are going to get a 04 cobra, you might as well get a 4.6 & start learning about them, no dis to the 5.0, but ifthats your future car you may as well start learning them now. cya. marty :D

5.0 all the way!!! Parts are cheaper, easier to mod, and MUCH easier to make quick.

I've been searching a new vehicle myself lately. I come very close to buying a new GT but have decided replacing my truck with a better one was a better idea. I found a couple Cobras in the ads here this week.. Both are red '97 Cobras, one is $10,500(private owner) and the other is $12,995(dealer), why not get a Cobra?

FYI-
I found a 97 GT with under 35k miles for under 10 grand. Looks like looking this weekend is going to be fun!:D

Anybody got some cash they can spot me till I sell the other two??

So I have officially cast my vote on the motor, and called all my credit card companies to get cash transfers to make this happen. As an accountant I don't advise this practice. As a gear head, I have to say I have more credit than I know what to do with, and its all at 0% stated interest, so there.:p

I looked at the '97 I mentioned above. The car is PERFECT. 30,9xx miles, $9,9xx. Five speed, cloth interior (no sitcky back, yippie), 16" rims (more comfy ride) Laser red over grey. Stock everything, just had 30k service with records. Get this, little old lady owned it. Had everything from an Rx-7 to an SS 396 chevelle.

Car runs great, and I would be stupid to pass this up. Comparably priced cars have more then 2x the mileage, and are more beat up. One had the 5spoke 17's but they ride harher for everyday duty.

I know I sound like an old man, but I am. I'm calling her in the morning to put down a deposit and come back with the rest in 36 hours. Now I just need to unload the other two.

By the way, I did drive both mod and pushrod cars this weekend. I know the go fast parts for the 302 are easier, but I don't plan on modding this anyway. There is something special about rolling in a 5.0 (with the ragtop down so my hair can blow) if you know what I mean.

Either one would get the job done, and as a whole the best car I found had the 281 cammer. So hopefully my sig will change this week.:D :D :D
