Weight and the 1/4 mile
How much slower is a Mustang going to be with a few hundred pounds of stereo stuff in the trunk? Let's say a Mustang without a system is running 14 sec 1/4 mile, how much slower would one that is weighed down in the trunk be? And couldn't the take off be faster with alot of stuff in the trunk due to better traction? The big disadvantage would be in the high end, when the pedal is to the metal... But how much slower is it?

They say 100Lbs = .10 but being in rear of a front heavy mustang might help a bit with traction but still would slow you down on topend.

They also say that every .10 you get in the 60 foot, it doubles at the end.
Scenario: Lets say you run a 14.50 at 95 with a 2.2 60 foot. You add the 200lbs of stereo equipment and run a 14.70 at 95 with a 2.2 60 foot. Then you hook up because of the added weight and run a 14.50 at 95 with a 2.1 60 foot. There are other factors, but this is a way to look at it! |
Run 50 yards as fast as you can. Then do it carrying a full 5 gallon bottle of water.
Notice a difference? Okay, so that's a little exagerated, but you get the idea. 5 gallons of water only weighs 41 pounds. 200 pounds of anything extra will slow down your car at least 2 tenths, IMO, maybe more. The best way to find out is to pull it out the next time you go to the track. Take care, ~Chris |
