which is faster?

what is faster a 5.o lx or a 5.0 gt considering both stock?

FivepointOH 07-25-2002 12:21 PM

The lx should be faster by a little bit because it's lighter.... lots of factors come to play like which options on the car and what tune they are both in...

There really isn't a noticeable difference between LX and GT performance. Notchbacks are generally a little faster than hatches, though due to less weight and stiffer unibody.

Under perfect test conditions, I would expect the Coupe LX to be faster.

However, the difference would probably be negligible, and therefore, I would chose based on which you feel looks better.

do you mean hatchback vs. hatchback? if so i have seen 2 stock against stock race. the GT won then the LX one. i would say they are equal. not much weight difference.

foxbodied 07-25-2002 09:06 PM

yea i thought so

i figured it would be about the same My pop dukes thought since the lx's didnt have the spoiler and so forth as the gt did. He said it wont matta cause ill be doinin the speed limit always. HAha whos he kiddin ill be burnin camaros and rice alll day long. He used to be a fast racer in my town one of or maybe had the fastest car. He had a nicely tuned GTO

Blah blah, its the same motor, in slightly different weight chassis.

For all intensive purposes they are basically the same.

Driver

neither one is going to do anything without a great driver,I have raced plenty of guys that had me covered with more hp and they got busted out of the hole and I happen to get there first.

I seen on another post that neither one was lighter than the other, even though I know that is false, heck just look at a coupe the eye never lies,it even looks lighter than a hatchback.

Driver plain and simple.

When stationed at Dover AFB from 86-90; I knew a guy that had an 88 LX 5.0 Non A/C Model. The consistency was unreal. 14.57at 96 every pass. The thing would not spin,it just went;) I like that body style the best of all the Stangs:)

84LX89GT 07-29-2002 12:53 AM

I've heard that the notch weighs like 50 lbs lighter than the hatch, and the GT is like 30 lbs heavier than the LX because of the extra molding. Basically it's a personal preferance. At 100mph my GT handles better than my '84 5.0L LX did i can tell you there was a BIG differance in aerodynamics by the feel of the car. The GT squats down at speed and the LX tries to go airborn. The 84 though is slightly different than the '87+ ones though, but not by a whole lot.
I like the either one so i'm impartial.
