Clutch problem w/tremec tranny
I recently installed all the following on a mildly modified 94 cobra all at once:
tremec 3550 10.5" ford king cobra clutch kit upr clutch quadrant/cable kit steeda short-throw shifter lakewood bellhousing after installing, the clutch pedal is REALLY STIFF.. the car runs fine and i've been driving it for a few weeks now the way it is but i'd really like to get it back to close to stock softness.. any ideas? i used the stock clutch fork, could that be it?? thanks, josh coolguy6200@hotmail.com |
The clutch that you installed is approximately twice as stiff as the stocker. You can get a "stock feel clutch"

That couldn't be a more wrong statement. The king cobra clutch kit has 140% the holding power that the stock clutch does. However, because of increased designed the pedal feel of the king cobra is 10% less than stock. I just installed a king cobra clutch and the pedal feel almost none existant compared to the old clutch. I know with the tremec that almost none of the stock drivetrain works. You need a different clutch, input shaft(i believe), and bell housing. Your new king cobra should not feel anywhere near harder than stock. |
that's cool.. the lakewood bellhousing is especially for the tremec and, what i was told by the company i bought the tranny from, the input shaft is identical to the t5, but the tremec tko is different..
the tremec also should use the cobra clutch no problem, where as the tko won't.. the only thing i can think of is the fork.. it's the ONLY thing besides the shaft thats stock.. besides that, maybe where the clutch cable attaches to the bellhousing? i doubt it though.. it's about 2" away from where the cable attaches to the fork and it's only offset about 1/4" because where it goes through the bellhousing it needs to slightly turn inward to attach to the fork.. it should be fine.. ??? |
I am running the tremec 3550 with a centerforce dual friction, McLoud bellhousing, stock fork and a summit quadrant. I dont notice anything substantially different between it and stock. Could it be that the quadrant you are using is different?

if you were to get under your car and try to move the fork with your hands from outside the bellhousing how hard is it? can you not move it at all or is it fairly easy or can you barely move it?? i can barely move mine.. and i mean barely.. i don't know if thats normal or not?
also, i'm using the normal UPR products cable kit.. has anyone had any experience w/this kit? thanks for the help - josh |
Last fall I installed the following:
Termec 3550 King Cobra Clutch Kit McLoud Steel Bellhousing Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel My clutch pedal effort actually increased (probably because it was new) but it is about the same as the stocker setup now that I've broken it in. I think your problem may be in the UPR clutch cable kit. I re-used my stock cable set-up and clutch fork without any issues. Are you sure you've got the cable routed through the bell opening properly? (the guide thing is what I'm referring to) As for trying to move (depress) the clutch from underneath the car, it is hard to do as you don't have much leverage - but you should be able to depress it. One other thing - when you installed the clutch, did you ensure that you tightened the bolts in a crossing pattern to give the 'forks' an opportunity to seat properly? Good luck, E |
