What brand tire?

I need an all season tire that will perform well in snow and rain for my Stang. I don't won't to spend a ton of money here....hopefully about $120 a tire. What do you guys recommend?

Kamaro Killer 07-29-2002 07:25 PM

Sorry, can't help you with that

Here in California, I can't even remember the last time it rained. :p :D Sorry, couldn't resist :D

Ha ha, all you guys in the nice weather are real funny  :) !

Well, I decided on the Yokahoma Avid series tire. Sounds like it may be a decent performance tire and still get me around in the snow (yea, Kamaro Killer....it snows in Missouri:p !)

When I get the new wheels and tires on I will try to get pics up with them and that Maaco paint job (still looking good btw).

Call me strange, but I'm kinda partial to the round ones. If they can hold air, that's a real plus, too!

Good luck!

Take care,
~Chris

Really? I am kind of partial to the solid rubber ones like my tricycle used to have. That way I don't have to worry about flats :D !

I use Pirelli P400 Touring tires, they seem to be good in all conditions, much better than the stock tires my car came with, i got them from my ford dealership for $450CND for the set because they gave me a discount because i bought the tires through them. i dont know if they are actualy good compared to others, but they seem pretty good to me.

I have Kuho's 712's on my car they work nicly for a street tires and they will not brake the Bank Ithere.

Yokohama Avids

For what it's worth, I recently installed a set of Yokahama tires on my LX and so far, I love them. I have the Sears equivalent of the AVID H4 series. ($80. each). I haven't done much driving in the rain (haven't had much here lately) but they grip well and ride smooth. I have high hopes.

They replaced a very worn set of Firestone Firehawk SZ50's that were great - for about 10,000 miles - then gave up all signs of traction - and tread - by 15,000 miles. Never again.

I decided that I don't need a V or Z rated tire as I never go over 120 mph and the softer rubber compounds, while great for traction and cornering, are short-lived on a daily driver and basically a waste of money if you don't either drag race or road race - a lot.

I wish you well with your new Yokohama's. Let's compare notes in about six months and see how they work out.

When I had a street Stang I ran Continental Touring Tires. Held up real well, great in the rain. Had a good tread design that promoted longer life. I put bout 20 thousand on them, sold the car and the guy that has it now is still running them.

I will get the exact series from teh guy tonight maybe.

I love my Yokos. I've had many brand shoes on my pony, and although the Michelion Pilots were my fave, my current AVS Sports are EXCELLENT. However, at $260 a tire + shipping, I don't want to buy many of them  I run the A520 on the front, and those are good performers as well. I don't drive the car everyday, so I'm not TOO worried about treadwear (Honda is the daily mule :D)

I don't see much snow here but I'll vote for the BFG T/As as well. Back when my stang was stock I ran those and Potenzas(once), I could get an honest 2 years out of the BFGs. I also think they look cool with the white letters. What size rims do you have, stock size?

BTW, worst tires I've ever owned were Ohitsu. I had those on the back of the Cobra and they really sucked.

LOL. Depends on how you drive. The only T/A's I ever owned were the brand new ones that were on my '69 SS when I bought it. The back two were showing belts within 8 days. Of course, I was going from a 72 hp Datsun to a 325 hp big block Chevelle. :)

Take care,
~Chris

rbatson 08-02-2002 06:49 AM

HAHAHA!! I remember you posting that you didn't like them in the Tech forum. I've smoked the back tires with the current ones and once I smoked the neighborhood up, LOL! They still have 'some' tread left. I should got out and take a picture of them. I had good luck when the stang was stock but ... nowadays, they just don't cut it even in 265s. I get on it at 30 and just spin.

PKRWUD 08-02-2002 07:06 AM

Hey, looks like you got control of your name again! What happened?

RBatson II 08-02-2002 07:12 AM

I don't know but I lost it again

PKRWUD 08-02-2002 07:23 AM

Classic. Rick, what is it with you and this site??? I'm thinking you're cursed or something.

;)

Take care,
~Chris

I Just put a set of BFG's on my car. I orderd them from Summit for something like 100.00 a tire. They are a great tire that get good traction. I recomend them.
