losing oil pressure

guys i notice my oil pressure is dropping pretty low on the "NORMAL" guage lately. An engine builder once told me that if you are driving down the road and your oil pressure fluctuates and the rpm is staying at a constant, then your motor is starting to go down. now i know this isn't the most scientific explanation but it does kind of make sense. my motor nearly has 200,000 miles on the stock block, untouched except for a cam change and timing chain change. it doesn't burn oil out the pipes that i see and the gas mileage is still great, aroung 20 mpg. it also still has pretty good power, now i am not complaining because the motor has done me great service, i just want to know what you guys think, because i might start saving for that and get it done. thanks guys

You may be ready for a rebuild, but before you do anything, verify the pressure readings with a mechanical gauge. The factory gauges pretty much suck eggs, and are not to be trusted.

Take care,

you could always try a heavier weight oil for a temporary solution.

Just a guess here, but could you just have a sending unit going bad?
