initial startup problem, and now it falls flat on its face
well for a few months now, I've had some problems trying to get it to stay running after initial startup, but after about 15-20seconds of keeping it running, it will idle fine. I'm sure alot of people have had the same problem. IAC maybe?
also, I'm not sure if it's related, but this morning as i was on the way to work, I gave it some gas in 2nd gear and tried to get up to speed, but as soon as i hit 3000RPM with about 1/4throttle, it fell flat on its face and was popping very loudly through the exhaust. I could bring the RPM's up slowly above 3000, but if i tried to acclerate even halfway quickly it would buck badly. I'm thinking its a severe lean condition, but I can't say for sure. The fuel pressure is fine at idle, and it ran very good at the track the other night, so i'm stumped. When i went to drive it at lunch it ran perfectly, which sucks because intermittent problems are harder to find. fuel pressure inertia switch? fuel pump? any help would be greatly appreciated |
Check for codes, inspect the plugs, then share.

fiveohpatrol, i have that initial start up problem with my car as well. I cleaned out the IAC with carb cleaner (to get all the sludge out) and i replaced the sealing o-ring as well. didn't do anything, but it was worth a shot for a couple of dollars (cost of o-ring and gasket). I was wondering myself what the problem could be. My car doesn't have any codes in it and the plugs are a light brown/gray color. I'm not too worried because once it starts and idles for a minute it runs great, but it's annoying.
