373 gears
Anyone know the diameter of the ring gear out of a Ford 8.8 rear? Friend of mine found a set of 373's but he's not sure if they are for a 7.5 or an 8.8. I can't remember from when I got mine installed.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not but somewhere I read an advertisement for gears, 3.73, 4.10, and so on and it said that they were interchangable between the 7.5 and 8.8 rears. The 9 rear is the rearend that has a totally different set of gears for it. You could pick up a chilton's at you local parts store and look it up for the 7.5 and 8.8 to be sure. Hope this helps.

at the cost of sounding rediculous if i'm wrong, i thought that 7.5" and 8.8" WERE the diamter of the ring gears. That's why they call them 7.5" and 8.8" rears if i'm not mistaken.

You are correct, sir. 8.8" IS the outside diameter of the gear.

Sorry to bring this up again. He ended up buying the gears, and the ring diameter is 7.8", not 8.8 or 7.5. The ring has "Ford 373" engraved on it. I tried to find a Chilton but they were sold out. Thanks for the replies

The 8.8 and 7.5 rearends require their own gears. They are NOT interchangeable.
Those gears your friend found might even be from the old 8 inch rear Ford used to make. ------------------ '82 GT 351W C-4,BBK headers,Carter 625 carb,Comp.Cam,Flowmaster exhaust. 1988 GT...T-5,bone stock |
