Holley Blue fuel pump mysteriously fails
 

The Holley Blue pump is basically brand new, maybe 1000 miles on it. As far as I know, all electrical connections are secure, but who knows...this has only happened twice, and never near my home/tools/garage.

It's happened twice on the exact same section of road, once last night, and once about two months ago.. Never anywhere else. I'm really giving her, floored, and then I feel the fuel starvation kick in, look down, no fuel pressure... pull over... Nothing visibly wrong..pump feels warm to the touch. I end up sitting and waiting, and after about 5-10 mins, the pump works again.

I wish it would happen at home so I could look into it more.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the road being somewhat bumpy, me standing on the gas, or a combination..

The only thing that I can think of is your fuel pump feed line. I was looking at your web site and i noticed that you are using a stock type pickup. A inline fuel pump should be gravity(sp) fed, inline pumps like to push not pull. When you are at WOT you may be starving the pump because it has to work so hard to get fuel.

Actually, I'm using a Ground Pounder pick-up, I just didn't have it listed.

I have the pump mounted as close to the tank and low as possible....but it still might not be good enough..

I just may have to get that tank sumped after-all.

Had the same problem with mine,ran another ground and it went away.also,is it near the exhaust?..if so it may be overheating,try some heat tape.

I have dumps, so it's not close to the exhaust. I'll definately try a second ground though.

good vent on the tank? isnt vapor locking is it?
when it dies, is the pump still running? or shutting off?

The pump shuts right off.. no more noise, no more pumping.

I hope it's not vapor locking, I'll have to look into that.
