Summit clutch problems!
 

Hey guys, I got a 87 Mustang 5.0 with a Summit aluminum adjustible clutch quadrant (i think how it all goes ;) ) Anyways since I purchased the car from the pervious owner it has had a very strong resistance to the clutch. Meaning its a pain in the butt to punch in. It seems its getting worse as well. I now have to put all of my body weight into it (I'm only a 130 pounds) and grip the steering wheel to get it in. This gets old after a while :D But the thing sure does come up quick!

Just wondering if I should tear the thing apart to see if its the clutch cable or what? I'm thinking its hanging.

Or I might just buy a new stock clutch but I hope it can hold my hp.

I know racing clutches are strong but this is out of control. A lot of my buddys who have driven had said somethings just not right as well as numerous mechanics. Any ideas?

All brand new apprentely from the previous owner but that could be questionable due to no receipt for that.

Definitely check out the cable. Make sure that it is routed correctly as well.

You should also gains some weight, you could then add more pressure to the pedal. I recommend BugerKing, they have very fatty food, you'll gain weight quickly. :p :D j/k

Where does the pedal grab in relation to the floor? If the clutch can be disengaged very far off of the floor (as soon as you push the pedal in) , then you shoul losen the cable (screw the adjuster into the firewall). Even if it grabs close to the floor, adjust it in just to see if it helps, just make sure it is fully declutched when your foot is to the floor.

Burgerking= Yum :D Well guys I'm getting it checked out soon with my buddy. It seems the clutch went haywire and now it wont engage. Btw, it engaged about and inch or so down. I'll post more soon, appreciate the comments!

If it engages only an inch or so down from the top, then it is adjusted wrong. I had a similiar problem when I had a clutch put into my white mustang with the steeda firewall adjuster. Just screw the adjuster into the firewall until its where you like it. That should fix your problem.

I'll be sure to check that out when we tear it apart. I wouldnt be surprised if its adjusted wrong, some wackos put this thing like it is. A windsheild wiper hose was incorrectly placed into the vaccum system causing smoke for the longest time :mad:

Do you have a firwall adjuster? Try adjusting that before you take anything apart.
