Upgrade 8.8 rear ??
 

We have an 88GT that's being fixed up for a weekend road-warrior. Got an all stock rear with stock gears. Looks like the clutches need to be rebuilt in the limited slip, as when we try and spin rear wheels only right one leaves burnout mark on pavement.

Here's my question - we're looking to beef up the motor in time with a possible blower down the road a ways. Should we upgrade to 3.73s, put in a different differential like a Powertrax and 31 spline axles?

Our car has a 5-speed.

Get ahold of Drive Train Direct(On the web or 888-584-gear) and get the Eaton Package. It comes with an Eaton Posi, 31 Spline Axles, and berrings for 559$ shipped to your door. Also get a 3.55 or 3.73 Gear if you think a blower is in the future. This setup has been rock solid for me so far and the price can not be beat.

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how tough was it?

Me and my brother did all the work. Now, we also (since it was tore apart) had the axle tubes welded(by a local speed shop 38$ ), put HPM upper and lower arms, Alumm. Drivshaft. Pretty straight forward as far as installs go. Friend help me set up the Eaton(if you are unsure how to do,get it installed for around 300$) , blead the brakes, and putt it all back the way it came out. I would suggest anyone doing this, do it ALL at the same time(Granted money and time not a problem). It just saved us a lot of future install time by doing it all at once. It took us about 10 days to get it squared away.

This would be my 17-year son and I doing the work with. I agree while you've got the car on jacks - get all the work done. Sounds like a good winter project for our stang.

Looking to convert to MASS air as well. Got problems with the speed-density with idle simply when I put a high-flow K&N cononical filter on! Once we've got the rear done and MASS air - now we can start working on the motor with heads etc.

little info on teh idle surging. i have MAF and went to the 76mm C&L. my friend who did this said his surged and that its the angle of the air coming off the fan. he said he put his housing back on over the filter and it stopped. so that may be your problem? my surges now with new MAM but i have yet to put any of the housing back on.
