Anorexic Mustang

Does anyone know a technical guide on how to put a Mustang on a diet, to shed a few pounds? Anyone put their steeds on a plan, what kind of things can you suggest to remove, and how many pounds is the ideal loss but still keeping some safety in mind (not gonna remove airbags) Thanks for all respones!

I have removed

back seat
smog pump
ac
sway bar
rear seat belts
center flip up console
stereo
door speakers
spare
got a fiberglass hood
the balancer on the rear end

I did all of my weight reduction at once and it was good for 2 tenths.

If you want to spend a little money you could get a tubular K member and A-arms, this lightens up the front end and helps with handling.

free or almost free:

Eliminate A/C completely
remove spare
thick sound deadening material in the trunk
remove sound deadening material under the carpets
Tape rack
minimum of fuel
remove fog light (use it as a ram air) (GT only)
heavy fog light retainer in the front bumper (GT only)
remove air pump
back seat
helper seat (a little bit too much.... i never did that)
sway bar

not free at all:

manual rack (delete stering pump and other components)
weld dralite
aluminum head

92 GT = 2940 pound without driver
12.283 @ 108.95mph
(naturally aspirated 302, on a hot and humid day)

What is a balancer at the rear end, what is its prupose?

bigred90gt 08-16-2002 11:52 AM

This is one of those "duh" questions, but, what is the "helper seat"?

Sorry , it is a french expression badly translated.
I have to improve my english a little bit more.

Helper seat = passenger seat

Dark_5.0 08-16-2002 12:05 PM

The balancer on the rear is ther to quiet the gears..."stock gears"... If you have changed gears the balancer is useless and weighs about 10-12 lbs.
