Wet Tires
I was just wondering if spinning your tires on wet surfaces (like after it rains) actually wears the tread down on the tire. I'm not one for peeling out of every driveway I see, but once in a while (with a little help from adrenaline and Green Day), I like to get on it. I'm in college and I can't really afford to put $300 on the rear rims every 5000 miles; so I was just wondering, does spinning on wet asfault wear your tires out?

Yes. Not as much, but it still does. When you spin in water, the car gets up on a hydroplane. But there is still some contact with the ground, which is why you will creep forward, and hear noise from the tires.
I don't know how much comes off how fast though. I personally can't resist doing that either, well that and powersliding when I hit a gutter. I'm going to end up with a ticket for reckless endagerment or Exhibition of speed for that someday. I wouldn't be too worried about overall tread loss unless you start seeing smoke back there. They are mini burnout boxes afterall.:D |
