Stall Converters and Trans Brakes????
 

Hey,

I was reading about trans brakes today and i was wondering if you had a trans brake, if you would also need to put a higher stall converter in your car? Also can anyone explain the difference between the two, and the pros and cons of both, thank you for any info

A trans brake is built into your trans valvebody and will allow your torque converter to stall higher than using your cars brakes. As you increase the RPM, your car will start to creep forward if you use the cars brakes. The trans brake will hold the car.

The stall is the amount of slippage that your torque converter has built into it. You do not want the stall to be any higher than the RPM at which your maximum torque occurs. It's preferable to be around 500 RPM less than the RPM at which your maximum torque occurs.

Restomod your absolutely correct about what you said. Transbrakes are very effective when using right and correctly. Their a valuable tool to have to get a good launch and to keep the rpm's up on the launch.

If i were to put a transbrake on my car, could i keep the stock converter on the car if i have a high horsepower engine?

If you're only going to get one of them, get a torque converter. If you just have a trans brake and the stock converter you won't really be able to take full advantage of the trans brake.

If you can only afford one of them, go with the stall. If you can afford both, get both!:)
