Intake

Hello all. I am interested in getting an intake and want to get a Edlebrock Performer and saw an intake called a Flowmax. Has anyone heard of this and what is your oppinion of the intake. The cost is much cheeper than the Performer new, should I go for the Flowmax?

Thanks George

we really need to know what other mods you have, and what plans you have for the car before we can make a good suggestion on what intake to buy.

i've never heard of the Flowmax, but the edelbrock is a good intake

I have 373 gears. Msd ign., 1-5/8 unequals, 2-1/2 off road h-pipe, 2-chamber flowmasters, fender mount cold air, underdrive pullies, adjustable FPR, Flexalite fan, 190 lph pump.

I have a 70mm throttle body,9mm wires, and a highflow water pump going in soon. waiting for a cool day.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the Flowmax is a carbon copy of the Performer.

Thanks for the reply

Hey george. My little bro and dad bought the rodlites off you. Their the ones that met you at the rest stop up there. I was gonna come with them but didn't get a chance too. My bro LOVES those wheels. About the intake..just go with the performer. I think you'd like it better. I haven't heard too many good things about the flomax. Check ya later.

Hey Eric4nitrous,
Glad to hear that he likes them. I totaled my mustang back in May rebuilt it and have a few bucks lying around. I want a nice intake , I really dont want a used one ( because everyone wants top dollar for used ) but 339 instead of 484 sounded good.

Thanks for the input and say hey to your little brother and dad for me.

is that Flowmax the same thing as the Typhoon intake? Or is the flowmax the performer copy, and the Typhoon the performer RPM copy?

Hey George,
The Flowmax and the Typhoon intakes are Chinese reproductions. I personally own a Performer 5.0 and a Typhoon intake and there is a huge difference in the quality. The castings are very porous and full of casting slag in all the ports. The port dimensions are not consistent from runner to runner either. This is the second reproduction I have seen like this(poor quality). These manifolds will work for you but, will require extensive cleanup in the upper and lower before installation. Be careful with any cleanup as some of these runners are very thin. Lots of casting shift! For the street or if your budget minded I would consider the Trickflow Street Heat ($390 USA Racing), FRPP Cobra($379 Keith Craft Racing). For a few extra bucks the Edelbrock Perf 5.0 is great also. I got my Edel Perf 5.0 for $449.00 from Keith Craft Racing. All of the them will be within a few HP of each other, make awesome torque for street driving and the quality is far superior over the copycat intakes. As for these copycat manifolds, you get what you pay for. Go with anyone of the well known name brand manifolds and save yourself the headaches, you won't regret it. Money well spent. Just my $.02. Good luck.

Bill
