question on timing

what is total timing and what is spout out and in.

The spout connector is a jumper that plugs into the harness near the distributor. in order to do anything to the timing, you first must prevent the ECM (computer) from trying to correct whatever it is you are doing, and to do that you remove the spout connector. After you finish making your adjustments, you must replace the spout back where it was, otherwise, the ECM won't advance your timing at all.

Total timing is the total amount of advance the ignition will ever see, usually around 38 degrees.

Take care,
