A rookie with head question

A friend of mine has a set of heads from an 89 302 mustang, would there be a benefit to placing them on my 84 GT???? (larger valves or bigger ports or??)

I don't think the '84 Mustang has the E7TE truck heads in it, which the 89 Mustang does. Dude, they're truck heads, they've gotta be better!

they are much better..but even if you do it yourself it's not gonna be totally free.
(valve job, gaskets..)
It would improve but by how much???

If they're free, it's worth it. Don't pay for them though. You'll barely notice a difference.

i've looked into it myself and those heads are supposed to give you around 15 horsepower. I believe the intake ports are slightly larger and the combustion chamber is smaller giving you 9:1 compression instead of 8.3:1. In '86 the fuel injected 5.0 HO had 200 horsepower and a year later it was rated at 225 because of these things: larger throttle body, the E7TE heads, and i believe larger injectors. I personally also have some E7TE heads i was going to put on my car but my engine is reaching the end of it's days so it's a waste of time to put them on. Go for it, if you get a good deal it's worth the 10+ ft/lbs torque and 15hp.

If you're going to go through the trouble of swapping heads with some E7's go ahead and do some home porting on them. Here's an article on how to do it. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...ng/index.shtml

It may be a little overwelming, but I did my first port job on my heads and they turned out great. With all my other mods I'll be very close to the 12's with them if not breaking the 12 second barrier.
