RedLiNe
I have a 65' with a 289 and an aftermarket tach. What should I set the redline to?
|
Depends
Depends on cam, heads, induction, headers, exhaust, gears, etc. Give us a run down and we might be able to make an educated guess.
Rev |
" Der zwei achtzig neun " = The two eighty nine, incase any of you were wondering. lol:cool:
Like rev said ,Is the engine stock , hi-po stock or what? |
the 289 is stock except a new alum. weiland manifold, a holley
600 and duel exhost |
5000
My guess is that the engine power peaks at 4500 RPM and that you should shift at 5000 RPM or slightly less.
Rev |
just start it up and rev it till it blows. set the red line just a tad under the point at which it blew and go buy a new engine identical to the one you just destroyed.
Mike "Shallow Pockets Racing Team" That done blowed up goooood!! |

lmao..... Sounds like a plan. I would say a good guess is around 5000rpm. These are some stats on your engine's hp and torque. horsepower - 225 Bhp @ 4,800rpm torque - 305 lbs./ft. @ 3,200rpm §am. |
been there...
actually I already tried that...
I blew the head gasket at 5500 tring to drown out my friends 65 with a 170 I6...(quit laughing at me)... |
um, YIKES! If you only blew th head gasket you diddnt rev it high enough. to really get a good blow outta it you gotta keep it in neutral and just stomp on it. that way there is no drag from the driveline to slow down the engine revs, and a moment later, "THAR SHE BLOWS! LIKE A HUMP ON A NOR-WALE, ME MATEYS!"
Actually I would say that if your head gasket let goa at 5500, set it for 4500-4800. any one else have a better suggestion? and now a moment of silence for our younge pup who is racing a car with a real engin against one with a 170 I6...... HEE HEE HEE! Sorry had to do it... Mike (hanging head in shame for being mean) |
