Should I remove the mass air screen.

Is there any reason that I should not remove this screen? Will I get any more power out of it, and what are the pros and cons of doing this?

mass air screen

No, I have a book that tests most mods you can do to a mustang on a dyno. Removing the mass air screen actually can cost you some horsepower. It gave a reason for this, but I forget what it was. Regardless, I wouldn't remove it.

Well I went ahead and took it out and my car sounds a little quieter. It also seems a little smoother at WOT. If you remember why I should not remove it let me know.:D :D

I think if it actually cost horsepower then the aftermarket ones would have a screen. Don't ya think? The screen does jack ****. Another worthless piece that Ford included like the air silencer. I threw mine in my neighbors yard so that he would hit it with his mower.:D

I left mine in when I installed bbk induction but now that I think of it the neighbors yard does sound like a better place for it.:)

It is supossed to "smooth" the airflow, thus increase performance leaving it in. This is the word on the street anyway...

After 7 musstangs, I have never had a problem after taking it out, I've never run one and never will, the air filter slows down the air flow enough, I say lose it, but save it. I have three of them in the garage.

It seems to me that it would slow air down as it goes into the m/a. If I increase the air flow into the intake that would be an improvment. Am I correct in my thinking?

That screen probably wont make a noticeable difference no matter what, and I wouldnt worry about it that much. Some say remove it is better, as your thinking dictates, and others say leaving it in is better, as it smoothes the airflow(less turbulence). I think I even saw a dyno test in a magazine where Horsepower improved with it in, but that doesnt mean much. You cant believe anything you read in stang rags.

I would just get an aftermarket MAF meter anyway if you really want to increase performance. That is the best thing to do, and you dont have to worry about the screen at all then.
