TB big enough
 

I'm going to build a 331 stroker this winter and I found a guy who is selling some of his EFI stuff. Some of these things are a 65mm TB and a 75mm MAF. Are these a decent size for my motor? It's mainly a street car and will see the track maybe twice a year. I'm thinking about the Performer Intake and the AFR heads.

All of that sounds good except the intake. With the extra cubes you have a performer rpm would be better.

I would say those sound fine for your application. In fact it's what I have on my 331 ;)

As for the intake, I don't know enough about the Edelbrock's to comment. I've got a GT-40 on mine, which I know probably isn't ideal.

I would think you should go with a higher flowing intake also, I like the Steet Heat or Track Heat. The Holley intake is really good too.

What if I threw that TB and MAF on my stock engine for the being until next spring when i put in my 331, is it even worth it?

I would think so. As long as the MAF is calibrated for you injectors.

Call me stupid, but how do you calibrate it? Is it something in my garage?

No worries...Your MAF must be calibrated to your fuel injectors to ensure proper fule delivery. If you are running stock fuel injectors (19#) you need an MAF that is calibrated for 19# injectors. If you purchase an MAF that is calibrated for 24# injectors you can't use it.

Pro-M type MAF's can be reprogramed. To be honest I've never had it done so you'll have to check with your local speed shop, they'll get you going.

I think the edelbrock performer RPM would be best cause your gonna already have enough low end power, your gonna need that extra power later in the RPM band to pull further away on whatever ur racing , just my .02 everything else sounds good man.

He is exactly right. With the 331, your low-end torque will be incredible - believe me. However, in the upper rpm's say from 5000-6000, that 331 is really going to need air, and lots of it. not to mention fuel. I would have gone with 30# injectors on my 331, but I already had the 24's left over from my old 302 setup. I'm going to get by with the 24's until the ProCharger gets bolted up. Then, its time for some 50#ers!!! :D

Right now, I can tell you I am far from reaching the potential with my 331 due to the GT-40 intake and 24's - the engine falls off at higher rpms - and it shouldn't.

As for the Pro-M and recalibration...you can have their meter's calibrated to match your injectors when you purchase it. Then, later, if you need to up the injector size, you can send it back to then for a recalibration fee (not sure what it costs).

Alright, now I'll probably go with the Performer RPM, but now the 65mm TB seems small, should I hold off and just get a 70mm or even 75mm? Also, what size MAF will complement my setup the best?

65mm is good to like 550 hp......75mm would be big time over kill.

I would agree. 65 mm TB is pretty good. However if I was getting over 450HP, I would consider upgrading to a 70mm TB. and once I hit the 600HP mark then consider a 75mm TB.

75mm for a TB is quite large.
