Headlight Moisture
 

Hi,

I have a 95 Cobra. I have a yellowish tint on the inside of my headlights, I beleive it is from a buildup of moisture getting in it and drying over the last couple of years. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to clean it or do I need to buy new Headlight housings?

well the only way to get clear headlights again is to buy a new set this is pretty common i kept blowing out headlight bulbs because of the water splashing around inside the assembly and getting on the hot bulb i finally got a super small drill bit and drilled 2 tiny holes in each bottom corner of the lens and i never had a problem with it holding water again.

I drilled little holes in one of my lights too. haven't had a problem with blowing bulbs since but that light is hideous now, I think it made the yellowing even worse. I have a set of light covers and don't even take them off at night

There are many things you can do, drilling a hole is a last resort. I dont know if your model has replaceable gaskets but my 88lx housings were adhered together and the joints had been compromised so I resealed them with silicone and have had no problems since. The idea is to seal out any moisture, I also used silicone grease on the bulb seals. About the yellowish tinge, I assume that is the UV effect on the plastic, I used fine sandpaper, then rubbing and polishing compounds to take the worst of it off, also when you have the housing out of the car, use a bottle brush and soapy water to clean the inside of the housing. Now, after all that being said, the easy way out is drilling a hole or replacing with aftermarket housings, although I'm not sure of the quality of those things.
