tfs track heat intake
i bought a tfs track heat intake from a buddy he wanted to sell it because after 200 miles he was tired of a whining sound it makes almost like a vacuum leak i thought maybe it was just a gasket or something anyways i put it on my car and it still makes that same annoying whistle i have changed the upper and lower gaskets 3 times to no avail and i guarantee this thing isn't leaking around any gaskets i tried the old carbuerator cleaner trick and after 2 cans i can't find any leaks anywhere it makes a high pitched whistle at idle and a momentery little whistling noise when you throttle into it it performs fine it's just annoying has anyone else had this same problem? i'm wondering if it is the way the runners are shaped inside the intake?

It might be how it flows air thru the throttle body. THAT (the TB) is typically the one at fault.
Make sure there are no sharp edges at the mouth of the intake. MY TFS Street Heat had a little lip that I just nicked off with a file. |
You and he didn't also have a BBK TB too, did you? Those are notorious for whistling/whining.

yes it has a brand new bbk 70mm tb and egr spacer i will check to see if there is a lip. thanks.

The Track Heat Intake has shorter runner for a higher power band, and more of a "track" application. |
70mm throttle body forsale LOL
Yeah I have the 70mm BBK throttle body...it whistles louder than a referee at a basketball game...it is horrible. It is all mainly right off idle...I will be getting rid of it for a accufab or a Holley piece. I also have a Edelbrock RPM intake and have been leaning myself to a TFS Track heat more and more everyday....thanks guys

i never thought of the throttle body as being the culprit i have a bbk 75 mm on my '93 cobra and a bbk 65mm on my wifes '88 gt and neither of them whine but this is a brand new 70 mm and i see they have changed to a factory style throttle blade assembly the old setup sucked my 75mm cracked the throttle blade rod and threw 1 of the bolts down the intake and it got smashed between the #1 piston and my edelbrock head a week after i had the heads rebuilt and the 65 mm cracked in the same place and was about to lose the bottom bolt but i caught it before it fell out (thank god) i wrote bbk a nasty letter about this a couple of years ago i guess they finally agreed.
