The stock fuel system should be able to handle up to 500hp.

safely? huh thats alot of horses for a stock fuel rail! huh, i didnt know it can handle that much! i guess that is good news for me, cause if i ever hit those levels of power, it is one less item to buy for FUEL INJECTION!

i am thinking of going carb!

with about 550 hp and 42lb injectors i was sucking the stock fuel rails dry and blowing head gaskets every time i throttled into it hard.

How close to the edge do you think you were? Safe at 500, 450? 500 seemed to be the consensus. 600 if you modified the fuel lines and the way they hook to the rails. Anything above that would require new fuel lines and rails.

i still have them on there i just came up with a different approach to fixing the problem i have a buddy who works for american airlines and he made me a 8" x 3" fuel log with -8 fittings welded in then i gave him a stock fuel metal line and he cut the factory plug in fittings off the line and welded -8 fittings to it so i could use braided line and -8 fittings and still plug into the factory fuel rails and now it's like having a big reserve tank right at the fuel rails since i put it on i haven't blown another head gasket i would say just leaving the fuel system stock with a bigger fuel pump the max would be around 450hp before you start to run into trouble i'm also running a 255lph pump in tank and a vortech 50 gph inline pump.

From all the reading I've done 550HP or so sound about right. But that is just researching and not presonal experience (I wish... ;) )
