HELP! Fuel delivery problem had to abandon the 'stang!
 

Hey guys, my Mustang is parked about a mile and a half away from the house on a very busy street and it's not running, or at least won't stay running...

I was in 4th@40 cruising in the rain(not that it matters) and suddenly had 1 violent stutter like the fuel cut out briefly, I immediately removed my foot from the gas and after a quick guage check reapplied the gas and boom another. Then it stalled so I pulled over and it woudn't start. Checked under the hood all wires were in place at the coil, ignition, plugs etc. Got back in and turned the key and immediately noticed the fuel pump didn't kick on, so after a few tries it turned on and I could here a clicking sound coming from the fuse panel area, the car started and I let it run for 2 minutes and a click and it was stalled. I checked all the fuses it they look good...is there a fuel relay there somewhere? What is the clicking? Is my pump shot or just a relay? or something else?

PLEASE HELP the car is stranded by it's lonesome! Thank you in advance!

Really don't want to sound pushy, but anyone have a take on this?

Well I went back and started her up and drove her home without incident, of course I had my wife follow me and we ran some redlights so I didn't have to wait around for the car to act up again... That sucks, never had a Ford break down on me ever, leaving me on the side of the road, well I can't say that anymore when a bowtie recites the 'ol Found On the Road Dead saying....Oh well

I would suspect the relay. It should be mounted under your seat.

I had a very similar episode with my 88 a few months ago. It's the fuel pump relay as mentioned above. Mine would cut out intermittently. A few minutes later, it would work fine again. Sometimes it worked for a day, and sometimes it worked for a few minutes, but it would cut out again when it felt like it.

Replace the relay, and I'm sure it will go away.

I figured that was an airbag sensor under the seat there, I guess I'm too used to newer cars!

What was Ford thinking with that one?

It must have some benefit being there...

What do you figure for a price$?

$25 - $40, depending on how desperate you look when you get to the counter.

I ordered it this morning at my local Ford dealer and picked it up about 30 minutes ago ($14.13+tax), installed in seconds and hopefully my problems are over!
