Yea I didnt do anything to the rear-end yet but when i brake torqued it i get 2 tire marks and thats posi but i believe i read on here thats from the factory its called trac-lock or something like that, 96gt auto, thanks for any info and how much are gears to have installed? thanks again

Gears cost about 150 to 180 bucks plus you need the install kit for another 75 or so. Installs can range between 200 - 350 bucks. Have it done by someone who has done alot of them or you will be spending alot more cash fixing a problem. THE rear end in our cars will spin both tires in a straight line ( mine does ) but if you ever go around a corner and punch the gas notice the outside tire will spin hard and the inside tire will not. I think the rear end tries to give power to the tire that is losing traction or something like that. I'm sure someone will answere the question more completely.

Hummmmmm.......not unless you have a worn out posi. If you romp on it hard enough it should light up both tires and do that oh so cool hang the tail thing.

Just look on your differential cover and find the small silver tag. It will read something like this

3L08
3L27

for Trac-Lok or:

308
327

for open rear.

Or the almighty 2L73, yeah baby, highway gears! (ugh)

Posi is the GM term for it. They had it first, now its kind of like Kleenex. I think they even Copyrighted that name. Track-lok and Posi are both names for limited slip.

If one tire is lighter in a corner, would be a weight thing. Once you get them both spinning, they will leave the same mark in a straight line. Around a corner the inside tire will leave a lighter mark because there is less weight. You can see this effect exaggerated with a Mini Cooper, which will pick the entire inside rear wheel off the ground.

If you think you Limited Slip is shot, a straight line test is the only real way to be sure, without a "real" test of the part.

I didnt jack my car up so i think i'm gonna try that so help!, thanks for any help

Don't bother crawling under the car, you DO have a Trac-Lok rear-end.
