Looking for opinions.
I have a 1994 v6 mustang. I am stuck between going with a 1996-1998 Cobra Vert or modifing my 1994 to a Blown 351W SVO. I am not caring about cheaper. This is a father son project as my college grad gift.
What I want to know is what would you guys do. We will do all the work. Would you guys go with the name Cobra or go for the 351w and why? Thanks. |
To be honest with you I would go with the Cobra. If you throw a blower on that 4.6 4V you'll have plenty of power and with some exhaust and a set of gears you'll be done.
Converting your V6 to a V8, you'll need the engine, rear axle, tires and wheels, ect. Plus at the end of the day you own a COBRA! That is what I would do. |
Opinion #2:
If money is no object, I'd go with the 351. Cobra's are dime a dozen as far as I'm concerned. A mustang that's showing V-6 but hiding 351 under the hood is more my style. I'm not sure, but I thought in 94 Ford started putting the 8.8 in everything. Even if they didn't, a used disc brake 8.8 isn't too hard to come by. You could even keep your V6 wheels if you can get a big enough tire on them to get any bite. I've seen guys running drag radials on the V6 wheels. The only cobra I've ever really envied was the 93 Cobra R. Then look at the 03 Cobra...that's an awful lot of money for all you're getting. Imagine what that kind of money would do to most any mustang GT/LX from 87-98. You wouldn't even need to go 351. A healthy 306 would do you right. 302 parts are much easier/cheaper to come by than 351 parts. Check out ebay sometime and search 'mustang 5.0'. You'll probably be surprised. It's like a swap meet at your fingertips. Good luck. |
I do not look much like a v6 anymore. I took parts off my friends wrecked cobra, fiberglassed them and painted them. My marts where cracked so I replaced them with his. I know this is ricer but it is for future mods. I already have FRPP cobra R's with 255/40zr17 on them. I want to know if I should save for the cobra or go ahead and by the 8.8" rear end with 3.73's and springs and front cobra breaks. I can not decide. I also think it would be fun to build a 351W. All I have done is jeep and truck engines and my v6. Thansk for your opinions guys and gals.

Personally, if I was starting from scratch with no car, I'd go with the Cobra. But you're sitting there with the foundation and money already invested in nice wheels and some Cobra parts, even though you're sick of the V6, things would certainly change with a built 351 under the hood!
I can't wait to have the time and resources to pull my motor and completely rebuild it. I think it's really fun and the ultimate in pride of ownership. |
