Possible resolutions with Supercharger problems
Talked with C&L and Paxton today regarding my backfires and surging with the C&L 73mm and the Novi 1000.
C&L said that I have two 'things', first the MAF is two close to the inlet of the blower which results in the backfires (which I get when I let off the throttle at 2500rpm+) and the surging, secondly there is no Bypass valve to relieve the pressure resulting from a closed throttle @ high RPM....the other reason I backfire. C&L suggested the movement of the MAF into the fender to increase the distance between the MAF and Blower inlet. Secondly....put a bypass valve on. Paxton agreed that movement of the 'aftermarket meter' should be done, they disagreed with the bypass valve due to the lower boost of the 1000. Anyway, I went to home depot, picked up some piping and designed a new pipe to relocate my MAF. What'ya think?....no comments about the bar codes (still there in case I have to take the parts back) Here is the "stock" paxton setup for the MAF to inlet pipe http://www.meatman.ca/images/Blower_Pics/before_1.jpg Here is my attempt at the re-routed "superpipe" http://www.meatman.ca/images/Blower_Pics/whole_pipe.jpg Here is my attempt at the re-routed "superpipe" http://www.meatman.ca/images/Blower_Pics/after_1.jpg http://www.meatman.ca/images/Blower_Pics/after_2.jpg http://www.meatman.ca/images/Blower_Pics/after_3.jpg |
I had the same thing done with mine. C&L help my mechanic with this suggestion. It really does help.

If your MAF is before the blower in the intake route, that is your problem. It needs to be post-boost or it will send false readings to your computer.

No one has mentioned that....I think that is incorrect.

I would strongly recommend a bypass / blow-off valve. I'm really surprised the kit didn't come with one. Think about what happens if you're at 5500 and then jump off the throttle. That throttle blade shuts so darn quick and your blower impeller is still spinning very fast. Not a good situation.
As for the metering issue....well, when I setup my ProCharger, it will definitely be a 'blow-thru' meter from Pro-M, probably the new Univer meter they have. A MAF after the blower will provide better idle, and will increase the overall driveability of the car. This is info is straight from the guys at LaRocca's - supercharger experts. Just passing along what I've been told. E |
