Haynes or Chiltons?

I recently posted my mercv sable 3.8 questions, and was advised tyo get a ford shop manual on cd rom for the car. Well, after trying to find this thing for a while, i finally found out why i can't. There are copyrights from Ford, and I can't get it yet. But, they all recommenmd Chilton's. I have the Haynes book now, and it doesn't go into enough detail.

Which has more detail, Chilton's or Haynes? or are they the same.

they both suck!!

I have both for my 88 5.0 and they both suck. I would advice getting both though. There are vacumm diagrams in the Chilton that aren't in Haynes, and there are better diagrams in Haynes than in Chiltons. I know there are better ones out there, but I'm not sure of the name(s). Take care, Keith

has anyone ever heard of Helm manuals? i was searching on the internet today and found them. never heard of them.

I'm not sure

but I think Helm is the factory manual you would find at ford. It's an expensive book, but from what I've heard it's one of the better manuals out there. You'll have a hard time finding that book unless you get it online or order it directly from Helm. Take care, Keith

yes they are copyrighted, but if you find a disgruntled Ford employee (like we did :D) you can get yourself a burned copy!

Haynes manuals suck the proverbial big banana, but for the price I guess they are ok, for little stuff like interior panels.

Haynes and Chiltons are better than nothing, but they don't go into deep detail, or give you very good diagnostics. Helms sells factory manuals, and is the best bet if you are looking for info on a specific vehicle. CD's can be found on eBay for just about any vehicle, but I don't like them. I guess I'm just too used to having pages to flip through.

:)

Take care,
~Chris

i'm with you pkrwud, i like being able to put the book next to my work to refer to if needed. i would hate having to run inside constantly to print out pages.

thanks for all the help guys.
