1000 - 1500 grit
i have read some posts about cleaning up yellowing headlights by using 1000 or 1500 grit sand paper on them (wet sanding) and then taking some mothers aluminum polish and going over them really hard and they will look like new again.
Has anyone tried this? i have also heard that if you use a quick detailing spray that has uv protectant in it you can put that on there when you are finished to prevent them from yellowing again. Where the heck can a guy get some 1000 or 1500 grit sand paper? I have only been able to find 600 grit at any stores. |

I did this to my head lights not too long ago. Actually I would use 2000 grit wet dry sand paper. It will smooth out the headlight better and less chance of visible scratches. Of course you need to do this wet to prevent gouging. Mothers makes a plastic polish, this stuff works wonders! Buff the head light out with the mothers plastic polish on a dry rag and you end results will look great! Below are pics of my GT's headlights when I finished next to my LX's and you can see a tremendous difference.
