Overheating
Has anyone had trouble with the Flex-A-Lite Black magic fan? I have the Ford racing radiator, new 180 degree thermostat, Flex-A-Lite Black magic fan, Edelbrock high flow water pump... everything is new, and has only just recently started over heating. I've already flushed the system, but the problem persists. If anyone has any other ideas....I would greatly appreciate it.

We've got pretty much the same setup BM fan, Stewart high-flow water pump, 180 stat, underdrive pullies, and a stock radiator. We were over-heating - ran a pressure check no leaks. Replaced the radiator with a Fluidyne and the temp is always between 180-190 max.
Are you leaking any water, have you run a pressure check. Have you replaced the radiator cap - as the spring gets weak and doesn't seal. Are you sure the 180 stat is working. Do you have the BM fan coming on at the right time? |
Yeah... brand new thermostat...ran it after install and it opened right when it should have. One thing I'm not too sure of though is whether the fan is coming on at the right time...I have a weird feeling it isn't. There is a cheesy little thermostat that runs the fan...that may be the culprit, but I haven't had a good chance to check it out yet. I'll let you know how I make out.:D

get you a lincolin Mark VIII fan and put it in there. i had the sae problem with mine and when i went to put the lincolin fan in there i can sit in 100 deg. weather in texas with the ac on full blast and the temp guage sits on 130 deg. copy and paist this link it will tell you everything. i was able to find a factory lincolin fan here in Dallas for 100 bux brand new!

I've got a BM fan, 180 t-stat, underdrive pulleys, Motorsport water pump, and stock radiator and my car hits ~180 and never moves. I'll probably upgrade to a Fluidyne over the winter though because of the new motor. You can also bypass the thermostat that turns on the fan and just have it run all the time.

yeah i would just wire up a relay so that when you turn you key on the fan is always on. you could even put a switch on the remote side of the relay. works for me.

just keep trying the first one because it goes into more detail about the install but the geocities site is wacky. hope this helps. one thing that you will need if you are doin the mark VIII install is a 130 amp alternator. the fan can pull up to 75 amps! good luck!

I printed off some stuff from the Flex-A-Lite website... I'm gonna try it out. The last time my friend was in there not sure if he adjusted anything... Oh well...thanks for all the advice it all sounds great, and I may end up trying some if my fanis acting funny.:D
