Is the starter coming loose?
Is that the reason it's chewing up your flywheel? I had a problem like this. Everytime I drove my car for more than an hour, the vibration would loosen my starter bolts. I had a few people tighten my bolts, just to make sure it wasn't me doing something wrong, and they still came out. My flywheel was almost chewed up a few times, I realized the starter was coming loose before it caused any damage. I simply put a nut and lock washer on the back end of the top starter bolt and havn't run into the problem since. Good luck, Keith.

ragtop - I know you're frustrated right now, but in order for us to give more specific guidance, you're going to have to tell us exactly what you did to the car.
Like which parts are new, which were re-used, how the install went, etc. We need lots of details. Then, hopefully we can help you. E |
Have you checked the gear ring on the flywheel? I had a problem with my '84 stang and the starter grinding and it turned out the the gear ring teeth were worn down.
|
Might have to shim your starter also, to get the teeth and flywheel teeth lined up for proper engagement.
