The heads are off
I removed the heads today. The #5 piston was as clean as a whistle. Then I noticed something odd. There were two different types of head gaskets on there. One was a Fel-Pro gasket and the other one is...well...I don't know what kind it is.
I'm getting th idea that at some point in this engine's history, that a head gasket blew before. Other than that, everything "looks" good. The pistons are not coated with heavy carbon nor are the valves in the heads. I think I am going to go ahead and take the engine out because I need to replace the oil pan gasket and looks almost impossible to do with the engine in. It looks like my '82 is going to be down for awhile :( I'll probably be posting lots of threads for input on ideas, tips etc. as go through this long project. |
i bet thats what happened to the motor previously. but since all is well good luck!
take care, adam |
