removing oil pan
 

I have gotten the oil pan off and jacked the motor up but I do not have enough clearance. The Hayans manual says to remove the steering gear but it is unclear on how to do this can anyone explain it to me please?

One thing that you can try to do is remove the pick-up. It is tricky to get in their but if you can remove it then the pan should come out. I removed a pan in the junk yard this way for my brothers car. I left the steering on. But the steering linkage is that what you mean?

Yeah take the pump pick-up and the assmbly off while the pan is still up there.. I replaced the pump before with the pan still there.

I have to do this job one of these days.

Did you guys do this for a double sump pan?

I've had a brand new oil pump in the box for about two years, thinking it's a pain in the ***, and I'll get to it next weekend!!!! Took two winters of freezing my *** off to finally change my heater core!!! LOLOLOL

(just kidding, I was replacing the tubular k-member and decided to do the oilpan at the same time)

It had to replace the gasket but it is such a pain in the *** so I said F it so I just took the old gasket material off and I will put the new one on with the pan hanging but I took the oil pump down and now I can't get it back up how do you get the shaft back up there?

Put the pump on without the shaft, and put the shaft in from above (thru the distributor).



Pull the distributor:
Mark where the rotor starts on the base-cap (bottom 1/2 of the plastic distributor cap).
As you pull up and out, the gears will rotate the rotor...
Mark the base-cap where the rotor stops, as you eeeease out the dristributor straight up.
THat way when you install, you can align it in reverse, begin at the end, and slip the distributor down, and it shoudl fall into place at the start mark was.

When I put the new gasket on do I put the gasket sealent on the block and put the gasket on the block first or visavirsa?

If you are talking the oilpan gasket...

Get a ONE-PIECE rubber gasket!!! I put RTV on the ends of it (the "U" parts) in the corners. The rest was installed dry.
