Pro5.0 vs Steeda Tri-Ax shifter
 

Looking at buying either a Pro5 or Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, any comments on which one is better?

The steeda tri-ax is what I have, it is great for drag racing it is built very solid and you can bang through the gears like no other.

The pro 5.0 is good too you cant go wrong.

That's always the common thing-tri ax or pro 5.0. I got the pro 5.0. It is the best thing in the world, real short handle with throws at the flip of a wrist. Someone else told me it was built like a "brick sh*thouse" and I couldn't agree more. It has positive stops so you can't overshift "I love that Click, click click" when slamming the gears. This shifter will not break. Extremely stiff, gives that quality feeling, unlike my bro's honda civic shifter, which has 4 inches of left to right play while IN gear!!

Thanx for all the help guys - my son and I picked up the Pro5.0 and installed it last night. Of course we had to take it for a test drive and see how it shifts. Wow, I see what you've said - a simple flick of the wrist and you're in second, third etc. Like the positive stoping also..

Only thing I don't like is it's a little shorter than the stock shifter and the boot is now crumpled. Is there such a thing as a boot built for a Pro5.0?

the boot has the ability to interfere with the stops if you are using a long knob (leather with the longer neck). You will eventually wear through the boot and hopefully that will be all. You run the risk of killing gears if it is not fully engaging due to contact between the boot and stop. I went with a standard short knob(also adds some to the notchiness, which I love) and the Ford SVO boot and have had no problems. I got the boot from Mustangs Unlimited and it looks great, though does install differently than the stocker. Give this idea a try and you will be happy with the results.
