need advice on axle noise

What parts in the rear end would cause my axle to whine and have some play from power on to power off? I am going to swap the gears to 3.55 anyway, but do I need to rebuild or replace the diff as well? I plan to replace the differential and ring and pinion bearings. Rebuilding the posi looks pretty straight forward but if the spiders are worn would that leave me with the noise? Any help would be appreciated.

replace it. i busted mine on STREET tires. not e.t streets, i mean YOKOHAMA'S!!!

the stock posi sucks, if your somewhat serious about racing, throw an auburn diff in there. 250 bucks from summit for the 28 spline and it can take the abuse.

some advice i have learned if you swap the diff, use cheap gear oil at first to break it in, after about 500 miles, start using synthetic **** like royal purple or redline.

i hate the stock posi with a passion.
