sHIFT POINT???

I plan on going to the track this weekend. Given my mods listed in my sig, what rpm should I be shifting at? Should I lauch off idle, or if not, about what rpm? Last time, I launched at about 2500 rpm and i spun all the way through 1st. Any guesses on et and mph? I am running a set of cheap street tires. If I do good, I'll post the timeslip. I haven't been able to run it since I put most of te stuff ont. Last time I ran it, I had the headers and pullies and the 0.040" over bore and I ran a 14.7. My 60 ft times killed me at 2.8 to 2.2. Like I said, I spun all te way through 1st, second, ad about half of third. I guess I just have a heavy foot and sh***y tires. I was also shifting at about 6000 rpm's, which I now know is way too high, I just don't know what is nominal.
Thanks for the suggestions.

My best sugestion is start around 5250rpm and increase in increments of 250rpm until you find your best times. Picking your best shift point, and finding your best ET takes many many passes down the track till you find whats best for your car. Good luck. As well as launching, stick to a constant launch time which finding your best shift point, there's no point and changing both your shift and launch's at the same time cause you won't know which is helping/hindering.

Good luck

well all cars are different of coarse and there are just so many set ups... But if your really wanted to know where to shift you should take it and have it dyno'd. They will show you exactly where your torch falls off and where your horse power falls at which rpms... The best time to shift is right before your horse power falls off.

Otherwise you have to do it by feel and when you feel like its loosing power you should have already shifted.

As far as your launch goes, 2500 rpm is fine, what you want to do running really shitty street tires, is rev the motor up to 2500, then pop the clutch, don't slip it, all that does is wear your clutch out, the tires will spin for a moment, as soon as the tires stop spinning hammer down, this should improve your 60 foot times, let me know what happens,

Stay out of the water box! Crawl out at the line.

so i assume you are running stock heads and intake? well i shifted mine at 5500 and then i tried 5000. since i have stock components, the 5000 shift worked best and it was not floating the valves like it was at 5500. this is before i had the head mods below. one thing i got to tell everyone who is running a Ford cast head is that the springs in my sig made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!! i used to pull to 5500 and it sounded like it was dying, then i put the new valves springs in and i now raised it to 6000 valve float, so 5500 is usable now. i dont think you will have much gains anything above 5000 grand on a stock 5.0, but those springs stabalized the valvetrain very well.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I'll post my results, if it doesn't rain.

Try bringing it off the line at about 2,000 rpm, "pop" the clutch, and when the tires grab roll the pedal to the floor. If the tires spin, feather the throttle back to get traction (pedal it), and roll it back to the floor. Shift at about 5,500 and go up or down from there a couple hundred rpm at a time. It takes practice, but it's about the most fun ya can have with your clothes on. That's the main thing....Have fun! :) Good luck!!
