Which Rims & tires
I drive the car on nice days & take it to the dragstrip two or three times a year. Should I buy 15 x 7 weld draglites with radials or 15 x 5 with radials? Should I put manual rack back on? I have the 78 mustang rack(I think), is the flaming river better(ratio)? I drive to the track, 45 min. away. What is good for drivability? I know I don't want full skinnies. I had the manual rack on for a couple of years (with pony rims & 245/50) and that was a pain (a little squirlly too when driving down freeway).

Mike I would say get the 15 x 5 for the front if you don't want the 15 x 3.5" Skinnies. I run a manual rack with my Draglite skinnies and for the most part it drives great, and turn easy, tight parking spots can be a pain at times but it does save a lot of weight in the front end. Flaming River has 2 different racks available one of which is a close ratio rack, I think it is 18:1 instead of 15:1.
Whats your car run, and how quite is that VS-SQ? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension,S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! |
I think I'll do the 15 x 5's & I think I'll wait to get the close ratio manual rack before I pull the power steering, because the old manual I have now was'nt hard but about twice as many hand over hand turns to make a corner.
The car ran 12.8 @ 112 before the blower. I plan on getting it dyno'd & chip at Detroitspeedworks for around $500 before I take it back, plus these rims & tires and I will put the 3:55 gears back in(4:10's now). The blower is great you can hardly hear it. Perfect sleeper I think I'll take the Vortech stickers off. Will have pic's. soon. Don't you have that x-brace? How much did you pay for that? Looks cool as well as functional. ------------------ 90LX, T-5, Vortech V2-SQ, Holley, Twisted Wedge Stage1, X-303 |
Yes, I have the X brace, thanks for the comments http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif After talking to a couple race car builders they all said that if you can do it the X will make the Fox body very strong, they really need it.
I did all the work myself, I took the basic 8pt S&W kit and used the side bars to maek the X brace, I bought a piece of tubing to do the bar that runs between the shock towers and I took the rear bars from the kit and made them my side bars, it turned out really great and the car is very stiff. I plan on going to a blower in the future and although I love the noise thise SQ's always sounded sneaky, could be some fun. I was looking at the D1's from ATI or maybe a YS Vortech, I want to gop low 10's with the power to go 9's with a little more boost, don't want to worry about the NHRA licensing. ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension,S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! |
