4 Banger tranny??
What is there to putting this thing into a v-8? I know I'm wasting my time ,but this is the only option I have right know. I heard you just need a bushing or something? If this is true where can I get one. Thanks guys.

Ummmmm, is it an auto or a stick?

I know I'll get flak for this but, I would not use the tranny because the input shaft is too long. Thats unproductive for the crank, bearings etc.
There may be a bearing to take up the width of the smaller diameter, but again, why waste your time and damage. Not to mention its just plain weaker. my .02$ |
Granted if your talking about the 4 cyl. manual tranny, it is not as strong as the V-8.... But sometimes you don't have alot of options...... We put that in my lil bro's 89 5.0 because he was short on funds and we found someone getting rid of it...... Because of the way it's geared though the launch out of 1st was impressive..... All that's needed to install a 4 cyl. manual into a V-8 is the correct bell housing and the proper input shaft bearing (if i remember correctly it's a smaller dia. shaft).

its a smaller diameter but you can use a 79 289 pilot bearing if memeory corerects me and it woll work...yes the gearing is tight and impressisve but done expect it to last

Thanks guys. And yes I'm talking about a t-5. ARe you talking about the throw out bearing?(input shaft bearing). This is for my little bother and he has no money. COuld we grind down the end on the input shaft?
|
the throw out bearing should be the same.... the input bearing (goes into the end of the crankshaft) is different because the input shaft is smaller.

I pulled out the 5.0 t-5, put in the 2.3 t-5. No changes. I DO NOT expect it to last. But it does bolt right up. I've ben abusing it for about 3 weeks now, no prob. That 3.97 first gear is steep as hell. and really hard on tires! :)
