Driving lesson 101
I just put a set of radials on my car. I went Wed. and ran a 12.85 @ 108. I tried a few differant things to keep from killing the tires. My buddy took my car Fri. his first pass was a 13.40 @ 102. This just pissed him off. The next pass he put the tack at 2000, eased off the clutch, slowly mashed the gas, granny shifted 2nd, eased the gas again, and so on. 12.71 @ 108 1.72 60ft and a .501 light. My car has run much faster than these passes, but not with these tires. He simply drove better than me. I think that this may be helpfull to some of you guys with street tires. Try not driving hard and see what happens. You, like me, may get suprise. I will redeem my self this week, I just got a new set of slicks.

Sweet, thanks for the tip

yeah I know what you mean. Out of the few times I've been to the track I've noticed that the lower the RPM's when I lunch the better the 60'.

Well, Paul is gonna keep me beat for now. The track rained out. Also to up date you all that where keeping up with my other buddy, Cory with the AFRs, Holly, and HR266, on goodyear 225-50-16s ran a 1.8 60ft, 12.50 @ 111. And smoked me even after I treed him, and he missed forth. After I run the slicks a few passes, we will put them on his car.

I find if I bog it just a little off the line, it 60's well, like 2.0. (this a mostly stock car) If I raise the rpm anywhere past 1100 when I dump it, it spins and 60's poorly, like 2.2. Works really well on the street too. It pulls while the other guy is spinin his tires.
Just my 2 cents. PS don't you hate it when some one drives your car faster than you can? Lisa, my wife, can drive my (her's, I donno who owns it anymore) ) ranchero about a tenth faster than me. Even with the weight difference taken into account! Bugs me silly. |
