Got a problem with my stang.

My car has something wrong with the clutch. It isn't completely disengaging. I can let off the clutch and give it some gas and it just sits there, struggling to pull itself along. I talked to a buddy of mine and he said that there is some kind of adjustment that you can do underneath the dash around where the clutch pedal is. Anybody ever heard of something like that? I would really appreciate some input as this is my only mode of transportation and I don't feel like driving the farm truck back and forth from college. Thanks again.

Daniel.

how old is your clutch? sounds like it's fried , on the newer stang's i think you have to push the pedal in a few times, not sure, i have an auto.

It isn't to my knowledge. The guy that sold me the car said it had some kind of competition clutch in it, but I think that he might have been fibbing a little. The pedal is extrememly stiff. I can pump it a few times and it's a little better, but not much. My stepdad and I are going to look at it tommorow.

This is a little off subject, but the spark plug wires on it say 1995. I'm thinking it's time to change them and the plugs. :D

Look under the car on the drivers side by the front of the bell housing. Where the clutch cable connects to the fork, there might be and adjuster screw at the end of the cable if the previous owner replaced it with an aftermarket cable. If not, the clutch is probably just smoked. If theres an adjuster, try loosening it a little to let some slack out of the cable, just make sure you don't loosen it too much. When I got my car, the cable had too much slack, I did a burnout up a hill and when I was taking off the clutchpedal swung back a little and the cable came unhooked. My friends and I pushed it for at least a mile, then I costed down a small hill to get it moving and drove it home carefully without a clutch. I didn't know too much about cars, so I thought the clutch went out at the time, but got it fixed that night.

Well, my stepdad and I just checked out the car and it's going to need a new clutch. Argh!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna go and check out prices on them tommorow and check with a mechanic to see if he can do it.

I just replaced mine with a Ford Motorsports HD Clutch kit from Jeg's, it was only around $160 and came with the disk/pressure plate/throwout bearing. It grabs hard and the pedal isn't that stiff. It felt a little springy the first few days until the pressure plate broke in, but after that it's not very stiff. The King Cobra clutch is $199, the only difference is it has a softer pedal feel than the HD. If you don't already have one, I'd get an adjustable cable too.

dan i hope that it all works out good and its just the clutch, its shitty to hear that it happened. i replaced my clutch and tranny last year, alot of work but well worth it to have some good new stuff. make sure you pick a good clutch and not a cheap one. i got a good heavy duty one in mine and it works very good with the pressure you can put on it.
