4Cyl Ford Turbo :)
Well I finally got everythin about set for my 2.3L Turbo Ford.
I can't wait to start smoking some imports with my 4cyl turbo :-D I got a fully ported 2.3 Turbo Head with bigger valves, Ported upper and lower intake, full 3" exhaust, Big .60/.70 IHI Turbo running 16PSI, 35lb Injectors, BIG VAM, PE Computer Program, and still figuring out the front mount IC. It should go about 107-108mph in the 1/4mi and get 30mpg. :) Should be done in just about a month, and then I'll hit carlsbad atleast once with it. Skyler |
Sounds like one mean little ride. I love those little 2.3's. They're very good motors.
Good luck with it man. Daniel. |

Those Merkur XR4Ti's are cool cars. Good luck for finding parts for anything other than the engine though :D
That's awesome, i've always wanted to get a sleeper 2.3L Ford to rip up the roads. Good luck on your project, that's a pretty uncommon buildup since there's not a whole lot of XR4Ti's out there. |
I read a v8 swap on a Merkur years ago. I always liked those cars for some reason.
I pass one sitting in a field everyday, maybe one day. Good luck! |

We had one of those in autoshop my junior year of high school. it was missing alot of parts and didnt run at all. i really didnt know what it was at the time. It eventually was towed away probably to a junkyard. Woulda been cool to buy it and fix it up... :(

Why just stick with dusting imports, a few good mods and you might be surprising a few V-8s out there. I have always loved V-8s and will always have at least one V-8 powered Mustang, but I have been real impressed with how you can tweak a 2.3 turbo real cheap and be able to astound some people. The best things about these cars, especially the SVO Mustang like mine, is that they handle so well. With the way it was designed and the 4-wheel disc brakes, you can really straighten out some curvy roads. My car may not be the fastest from stoplight to stoplight, but I would be surprised if many cars around could keep up with me on a curvy backroad. My philosophy is that you will only get a few chances to really try out a car(safely and legally) on a straight line, but stopping and taking curves is a part of everyday driving. It's too bad people don't give these cars the credit they deserve. Good luck with it, there are a few xr4ti's abandoned around here, maybe someone will save them from ruin.

My 2nd Pinto was a '78 with a 2300/2bbl/4 speed, and after working the head (milled, ported, cam, etc), it actually beat stock V8 Novas and Chevelles all day long. It was my pizza delivery vehicle, and it shocked a lot of people. The 2300 is a good engine.
FWIW, my 3rd Pinto had a 2000 in it, and when I was done, it was even faster than the 2300. Paid $15 for the car, and invested $300 total. Ahhhh, the memories. :) Take care, ~Chris |
I'm getting ready to add a 3 inch downpipe myself as well as an e6 exhaust manifold, larger wastegate and a roller cam. I plan on getting an adjustable BCM so I can get more boost too. There are afew more mods I'm planning, but I'm gone take them one at a time so I can see what helped where. I'm guessing I'll have about 230-240rwhp when I'm through. That should be a big jump, especially when you consider all of those mods are only costing me around $200. There is a guy who owns a shop nearby with an SVO that is putting down over 350rwhp, he's just guessing until he gets it on a dyno, but he always underestimates instead of giving out numbers he can't back up. I've seen a time slip too, it was somewhere in the low 10's @127. These cars really make up there power at the upper range and his car has some serious mods to it. I don't want to go that far with mine....ok, I do, but I can't afford that many horses right now. Let us know how it goes.

Hey Sky, that reminds me, Duttweiler, arguably the God of turbos, is just down the road from here, on L.A. Ave. (Wells Road) in Saticoy (less than 10 minutes from me). They're very cool people, and I'm sure they would have lots of proven suggestions for you. If anyone knows a 2.3L turbo, it's them.
Duttweiler Performance 1563 L.A. Avenue Saticoy 659-3648 Also, I meant to tell you, ARP moved. They moved from Port Hueneme to Ventura. They're on Eastman Street, a block over from UPS on Palma. FWIW, I have an account there, and can save you a few bucks. Let me know if you need something. Take care, ÅChris |
They can be bad @ss there is a guy here named John Dale who runs 9.40's @145mph with his 4 banger turbo stang.
I seen it in person a couple of months ago. I thought it was fast when he ran a 9.86 @140......Then when he pulled a 9.40 I thought I was seeing things. Good luck |
SVOCOP- I got an E6 and some other extra parts i'll let go real cheap, lemme know whatcha need. I also got some 35lb injectors, but I think you already have those.
Chris- Thanks man... Ohhh Eastman, thats where I blew my head gaskets on the n20, and my friend crashed his camaro into the fire hydrant racing a 347 fox, hehe, I know where that is. Skyler |

How much would it cost to build something like that? Just curious... I would love to have something like that. :D
