The part that concerns me is that he shifted into 4th(Overdrive) and was pulling. I doubt that would happen. A Cobra with the 6 speed and ability to rev higher would pull easily upstairs because it would be in 4th(1:1). 18 psi, sheesh. 16 psi put my stock motored 3,578 lb auto in the 10s. The GN is my favorite car, but now that I have a turbocharged V8, I look forward to running into one on the highway. God help him if we are running the same boost level. :D

There are some damn fast grand nationals around here ( A couple in the 10's and a bunch running 11's and 12's) but bone stock vs bone stock my 01' cobra walks all over the GN's.

My friend ran a 14.2 @102 with his GN stock with drag radials in his GN, the track we race at is @3000ft.

I run 13.69 @102mph @3000ft bone stock.

Since my friend has upped the boost and done some other things and he runs a 12.4 @111mph @3000ft. He would smoke my @ss now.

My point being it isnt hard to haul some major @ss with factory turbo cars and the same goes for the S/C 03' cobra. Your GN buddies are comparing there far from stock GN's to a stock 03' cobra.

I am not dissing GN's I love those cars. But lets get real here your buddies are running low 12's and most people are running low 13's with the 03 cobra's stock. So why would they expect to lose in the first place.

You can mod anything to be fast so to say you dont have to worry about a 03' cobra cause your buddy beat one is retarded. I learned my lesson the hard way when I got smoked by a crx gutted and on the juice.

I have to admit though if I had a low 12 second GN I wouldnt worry about many cars either.

They ain't my buddies. I have no idea who they are, I just thought it would be a decent addition to this message board since it involved a Mustang.

We need to compare apples to apples. A stock '87 GN would get crushed by a stock '03 S/C Mustang. The GN needs modification due to weight and lack of 2 pistons. Both have forced induction but one has a few more cubes, thus the need for mods to level it out. Pretty basic. I'm not offering excuses, just explanations.

I'm curious what an '03 S/C Mustang runs out of the box.

Some guy on the net posted a 12.3 bone stock but I bet he wasnt totaly stock.

The 03' cobra on street tires is a b!tch to launch. Most people run 13.1-12.7's bone stock.

My brother just bought an 86' turbo Z he has ordered the necessary parts to up the boost from 4 to 9 #'s and is getting 3 inch exhaust installed. Got any advice for him???

do they even make the 2003 cobra in white yet?

Totally agree with the apples to apples comparison. Add modifications, and the comparison becomes a question of who has done more.

No car is invincible. This includes the '03 Cobra. They are fast for a production car, but not fast compared to a modified car. I can say that, I just bought one.

But add a few easy mods to the Cobra, and I'll bet the GN would have seen tail lights.

the guy who posted that ran a 12.4 in the 1/4mile....course hell be a match for a cobra, if not faster...12.4 is a damn quick car!

Later,

Gotta be real careful upping boost without paying attention to detonation/knock retard, fuel pressure, gas quality, timing etc. I don't have mine upped much from stock so I'm pretty safe as long as I run good gas. Most guys run turbo-link or other computer programs to read their cars for optimal tuning and to monitor the ever dreaded KNOCK. Detonation/knock can destroy a turbo engine. If you're lucky you'll just come away with a blown head gasket. I'm not familiar with the Turbo-Z or it's engine but it may have it's own specific characteristics. I know my old Typhoon wouldn't accept the same mods as my turbo 3.8's. For instance, the Sy/Ty engines didn't like the cat-convertor taken off without doing other things to the engine or it would over-boost. The GN/TTA's love the cat gone with no adjustments otherwise.

I read on http://www.blueovalnews.com Ford stopped production of the supercharged 4.6 due to quality control problems. The article can be found here:

Thanks for the advice..............That is why I bought my 01' cobra instead of an 03' I know its about a second slower in the 1/4. But it is my daily driver and not my race car so speed wasnt my main concern.

I wonder why SVT cant get there ***** straight,
