Can you jump a car from the starter solenoid?

I just finished re-locating my battery to the trunk, but I don't have an ON/OFF switch installed. This is not a track car (yet) and the Taylor box was given to me. I wanted to clean up the engine compartment and transfer some weight. I am worried about the possibility of the battery going dead someday and not having a place to jump it. The box is way in the back of the trunk and there is no way to reach the posts with cables. Can I use the Starter solenoid? I used 00 gauge welding cable for the install, in case some of you are wondering. :D

That's a good question. My instincts scream DON'T DO IT, but when I think about it, I don't see why not.

Why can't cables reach into your trunk, anyway?

Take care,
~Chris

Chris, I have a coupe and the box is installed directly over the back axle. It puts it right up against the back seat divider and there is about 2" of clearance from the top of the battery box (tall) and the speaker deck. Check out the picture and you will see. Thanks for the help though. Just trying to get a reason why it couldn't be done.

You could always have easy access posts like I do:

Great idea!

Can I just install them on the side of the battery box? I don't have an F-150 bumper handy. Seriously though, will that work on the side of the box? I would guess Summit has these. Thanks Chris.

Yes, the side of the box would be fine. They are completely insulated from the object they pass through (ie: bumper, box, etc.).

:)

Take care,
