exhaust flames

im shure all are tired of people asking about this but i was just wondering if i have this setup right. coil connected to spark plug in exhaust pipe. switch and lead wire to coil. easy stuff. ok now does it matter how far the plug is from the end of the pipe? whats the best distance? im guessing 4-6 inches or so? also i have seen some people rev the engine high and then turn it off and hit the switch. i dont want to have to do this.. what about dropping the engine into first while in second causing it to go high rpm and using the engine to slow the car. does this cause a rich enough condition to shoot flames? only reason i wanted this is because no one else at my school has this and i think it would be cool to have when the ricers stop at the light next to me. thanks for anyone who replies. and if you dont because you think this is lame and you have ben bothered by too many people asking this i wont blame ya :) thanks again.

While you're running extra crap into your exhaust pipe, why not just wire up an injector? That way you could spray some gas there directly and light it with the plug. I'm sure you could use a n2o style solenoid and such to make it work.

Of you could just make the car faster and scare the ricers by rep only.

I've raced two cars that were able to put flames out the back exhaust and they weren't running no switch. They just had straight back pipes, and running real rich. One was a older Ferrari, it was extreamly sweet looking. The other was this guys Prelude, he was running like 20 pounds + boost. He owns a performance shop, and has like $20,000 into his engine. You'd see him at high rpms fire shoot out. It was cool to watch him pull with fire coming out of his exhaust. =) When we got back he reved his engine and it was shooting back like 1-2 feet of flames out. I wonder if those cars will pass emisions? :D
