daily driver questions
ok guys. got a little problem. A friend tells me Austin County EMS is hiring and i would not mind the job. The job would pay about 1$ more an hour than my current job.
The problem is my mustang will burn more gas getting there than it would be worth. The place is about an hour away. EMS shifts go for 24 hours so i would only drive there once or twice a week. Therefore i think i need a daily driver. Any suggestions? I have narrowed it down to 2 possible options. first is a motorcycle. My current one is broken and i could use another anyway. the other hopefull is a Datsun 280z or something like that. Some old school rice. had anyone heard anything about these?? |
I would say go for the bike if you like bikes and know how to drive on already. You live in a warm climet so unlike me you don't have to worry about snow, or really much rain. I'd go for the bike, or if you want a car, I'd go for some small 4cly. that's cheap on gas & insurance and build up the stang evening, weekend demon. :D

All of the Nissan Z cars are good reliable transportation. My brother has 3 86' 300ZX's and they are well built and reliable.
They will usually go for 300,000 miles. Later, |
Man, go for the bike!! If you already know how to ride and are comfortable on a bike for an hour long commute, why not do it? You aren't going to get better gas mileage than what a bike can do.

I say bikes are fun, but it'll get old pretty quick if you're commuting a lot. I think a 4-banger car is your best bet. I remember the old Datsun Z cars...always wanted one "back in the day".
Here's what my son did recently. His 87 GT is now so un-daily-driver-friendly that he bought a friend's old Toyota Camry, automatic. Unlike his Mustang, this car has a radio, a heater, and great gas mileage for his commute. He paid $1500 for it. He drives his Stang to friends' houses at night and on weekends. |
z cars are all 6 cylinders

ya.... right now in texas it is 46 degrees. riding in that temp is not back, just not for an hour.
what is the price i should expect to pay for a Z? from what i understand they are all straight 6's. is there a perticular year or model i should look for? about the bike... i was thinking about riding the Triumph Datona 955i that is in my garage... but it only gets ~30 mpg. i am sure i can squeeze ~35 out of a stright 6. |

If you want something just to drive thats cheap, don't get one. Also, before This is not Cbring comes back with some other beotchy thing to say, all the pre-300 cars were straight 6's, all 300's were v-6's. Expect to pay more than 4 for a good driver. That's what I sold my car for and it was a piece. If you really want one, I can email you things to look for. I say Sentra over Z any day. |
