Please help me fix this

My car has been running a little rough for the past few weeks. I know the car is running rich because it backfires up by the headers and the exhaust smells like gas. I am also get a ticking noise coming from the engine when I give it gas. Is this ticking noise detonation or do I need to adjust my roller rockers? I just gave the car a tune up (plugs, dis cap, rotor). I am guessing this is a timing+fuel pressure problem. Please help me.

Thanks

If you are running the stock fuel pressure regulator, that may be the fuel problem. You can get a Kirban adjustable fpr for ~$70.

The ticking might be unrelated and could be many things. I had to go in and constantly readjust my old rockers, so if you put some rr on, that could be it. I ended up using blue thread locker on the set screws on my old set of rockers.

How can I determine if the ticking is my roller rockers or not? I do have a AFPR, but I have never adjusted my fuel pressure before. What is the proper way to adjust my fuel pressure?

Not sure about the ticking unless I could hear it.

Fuel pressure is set with the car idling, the vaccum hose removed and your finger plugging the vaccum nipple on the fpr. You could set your fuel pressure to about 35 - 38 lbs as a starting point and adjust for performance from there. If you check it and it's over 40 lbs, your definitely running rich.

The ticking may be a header leak. The running bad can be a number of things. A tune up is always good. O2 sensors can cause a rich condition also. Set the fuel a 39psi for starters. Does your car use a air flow meter? If so check it too. Hope you get it fixed, Let us know.

I will check my headers for leaks and adjust my fuel pressure. My car is speed density by the way.
