Was there ever a 4.0 liter in the foxbodies?
An old buddy of mine had a stang that was the first foxbody I ever rode in. He constantly got smoked by Slomaros, so I know it wasn't a 5.0, but I know it wasn't a 4 cylinder either. The car was an 88, and had T-tops. It really was a nice car, and I'm thankful he had it, because that's what got me into stangs. I can't seem to contact him to figure out what was under the hood, so maybe someone here knows, thanks, Keith

It was more than likely a 3.8 V-6
What year was it? |
'80 and '81 Fox bodies had an option for something like a 255 V-8 in them that sucked (No 302 for those years). They offered 3.8 V-6s in the mid-80s Foxes, but I don't think they were offered after '85 or '86.

The car looked like a foxbody from..
87-93, it felt like it had some power, but was not a 5.0. He told me a few times that it wasn't a 5.0. It had factory T-tops, so I'm not sure if that pinpoints the years it was from, but I know it wasn't a 4 cyl. Maybe someone before him swapped a different engine in there, but why wouldn't they swap a 5.0 in there if that was the case. Later, Keith

they had 4.2 liters in 81-82.

I have a buddy with an old fox and I thought it had a straight 6

Mustangs had an option for a 3.3L, 200ci straight six (same one that was in the '64.5+ mustang) in the early 80's until like '82 or '83
Mustangs also had a 3.8L V6 from i believe '85 to '86...basically mid 80's until '86. Mustangs had the 2.3L since '74 and there were a few turbocharged versions in the early-mid 80's. '79-'82 carbureted/turbocharged '84-'86 Fuel Injected The ONLY engines offered from '87 to '93 were the anemic 2.3L and the healthy 5.0L...basically stayed the same through these years with small changes in fuel injection and cams. Also only offered in '79, the first fox year, were 2.8L V6 engines offered in the previous generation the Mustang II. They had 2.8L badges on the side to distinguish them (why Ford did that....i don't know). Ford also dropped the 302 for the small bore, super smog 255 Windsor which was 4.2L and 119 horsepower for the years of '80 and '81. I believe that covers all the engines i can think of. |
