TPS voltage reads 5.05, how can that be??
 

Ok I went and bought a digital multimeter yesterday to test my TPS since my idle is running about 1200. I put the red lead into the orange wire, and grounded the black to a ground, and not the black wire. When I turn the key to on, it reads 5.05v. How can this be, or am I doing something wrong? I loosened the screws and tried adjusting the TPS, but anytime I moved it, the volts would change for a second and go right back to 5.05. One last question, is there a specific setting on the multimeter I should be using? Right now I am usin gthe DC 20. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wrong wire dude. The orange wire is the constant 5V supply. You need to probe the green wire.

And probe the ground wire on the TPS harness, not a general ground, as your readings will vary by .5 volt or more when using the car as a ground.

Also, Im a firm believer that adjusting TPS does absolutely NOTHING for performance, so I wouldnt be to concerned with it anyway.

Mach 1 is absolutely right. Just set it to .98 and don't worry about it. There're only three things the ECM is looking for, closed throttle, part throttle, and WOT.

If you set it too high, your ECM may think you're at part throttle when you're really at closed throttle. That's not good.

The only time you should really check it is after setting idle. If you're idling high, you need to do something else to set your idle. Search on feeler gauge idle to find threads on the subject.

Ok, great, thanx for the help! I just changed out my throttle body and swapped over the TPS. The car is idling a little high so I figured that may be the reason, and wanted to check to see if it was close to the .98.
