Car beeps or dings when I shut it off.

I just replaced the clutch quadrant in my 93GT today. After en emergency trip to the chiropractor to fix my back (ha ha) I noticed when I shut the car off there is a beeping or dinging sound coming from under the dash? I had unhooked the battery when I was working on it, could that have something to do with it? Is it the computer beeping? It beeps three or four times and stops. Everything else works fine? Help please?

My car has always done this, i heard somewhere about it being the airbag, i dont think its a problem, but i could be wrong, i thought it was normal actually. someone else might shed some light on the subject.

it is ringing because you have your key in the ignition. There is a little wire coming off the ignition lock that you can unplug to stop it if you like. Mine didnt do it until i replaced the ignition lock and found that wire was broken on the old one. Ever since I plugged the new one in it has done it.

hope this helps

if it a series of 5 beeps...its your air bag...my 4 banger does that...try checking all the sensors behind the headlights...when mine does it I go wiggle the lights and it stops.....but be VERY CAREFUL I have also had an airbag explode with me 4 in from it...NOT A GOOD THING MUCH PAIN MUCH SUFFERING!!!!!

Check the air bag warning indicator. It should "prove out" for about 6 seconds after the ignition is turned on. If the air bag monitor (the blue box) detects an open circuit in the air bag warning indicator circuit (ie: a burned out bulb) it will beep at you. If I remember correctly it is a series of five beeps repeated about 5 times. This is repeated every 30 minutes if the ignition is on that long.

Im at a loss as to why this would happen just from jacking the car up removing the battery and replacing the clutch quadrant? I thought maybe I needed to reset the computer or something. If it is the airbag is there any danger lurking?

It's probably just a coincidence that it started beeping after change the clutch quadrant.
It just happened to choose that time to start beeping.

Just wanted to be perfectly clear on this...it only happens when I turn the car off. The air bag light goes off as it should after the car is started. When I turn the car off it is silent for a couple seconds and then 5 short beeps. Any Ford service people out there?
